"May all your troubles last as long as your New Year's Resolutions!" - Joey Adams

Three Areas that ensure a Hot Water System maintains peak performance when temperatures dip!

With winter on our doorstep, these should be top of mind.

1. Insulation

A quick and easy way to save on heating costs and conserve energy is to insulate the hot water pipes! Check the pipe insulation yearly to make sure that it's still in good condition and that the pipes are completely covered.

The hot water pipes radiate a lot of heat that can add unnecessary heating costs to energy bills? A great solution is to insulate the pipes to reduce heat loss and raise the temperature of the water by 2 to 4 degrees Fahrenheit. Meaning the  wait  for  water to heat is shortened, all while conserving water and energy.

2. Pipe Gaps

The air gaps where the pipes extend through exterior walls need to be sealed, it’s just as important as insulating the pipes themselves. A significant amount of heat loss occurs in such gaps where pipes or wires penetrate exterior walls. Blocking these gaps is a critical part of any weatherproofing or winterizing scheme.

3. Sealants

Duct tape or self-sealing strips on the insulation may come loose over time and expose parts of the pipe. If the pipes are not completely covered, reseal those areas before winter temperatures drop.
