The Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC) is a state-funded
renewable energy and energy efficiency research, training, testing and
certification institute. All collectors and systems sold or
manufactured in Florida must be certified by FSEC. Collectors that
receive certification must undergo a rigorous testing program designed
and performed by FSEC staff. The testing includes a 30 day exposure
test during which the collector undergoes the following tests: a thermal shock/water
spray test, a thermal shock/cold fill test, a post-exposure static
pressure test, a collector time constant determination test, the FSEC
thermal performance test, and an incident angle
modifier test. Thermal performance is provided as daily output summaries for various
ambient temperatures.
